City & Guilds (4248-03) Start IT - (Entry 3)
This
award is an entry level qualification, which is directed
at beginners to computing. The selection of candidates is
at the discretion of the Centre an no previous knowledge
is assumed. However, candidates should possess basic literacy
and numeracy skills.
A candidate who successfully completes this award, will
be able to use the basic functions of a computer, have a
basic knowledge of computer hardware, and also basic use
and knowledge of one of the following applications (depending
on the option chosen):
-
Word processing
- Database
- Spreadsheets
- Internet/e-mail.
Certificate for IT Users
(e-Quals)
City & Guilds (7262-01) (Level 1)
This award
is a progression from the Start IT certificate and is aimed
at candidates who have basic knowledge of computing. The selection
of candidates is at the discretion of the Centre. Entry level
qualification, which is directed at beginners to computing.

e-Quals
is the City and Guilds flagship IT award, it is a selection
of highly flexible and current IT qualifications, resulting
in a certificate for IT Users. It is an up-to-date suite
of IT qualifications designed in consultation with business
and leading industry experts. It is aimed at anyone wanting
to improve their IT skills. Launched in June 2001, e-Quals
has quickly gained a reputation for being flexible and up-to-date;
meeting the needs of both learners and employers. e-Quals
offers you different routes into the IT world, whether you're
an experienced IT professional who needs to update your
skills or someone who just needs to improve your word processing.
Diploma for IT Users (e-Quals)

N/SVQ for IT Users (ITQ)
City & Guilds (4322) (Level 1 and Level 2)
This
award is an IT User National Vocational Qualification (iTQ).
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) aim to increase
the skills of people working in a wide range of industries.
Developing the skills of each individual, wherever they
work, and whatever they do, meets a basic individual need
for personal skill growth. Developing individual skills
also meets the needs of employers to be competitive and
succeed.
NVQs have been, and will continue to be developed for all
industries, and are supported by government. They have been
designed to provide valid and relevant vocational qualifications
for people at work.
There are no entry requirements for this award. The only
requirement is that you are in employment (this includes
voluntary employment). The level that you will take will
be assessed and will depend on your skills and knowledge.
There
is no set time limit in which a candidate must complete this
award. However, standards which make up the qualification
are normally revised every five years and candidates should
aim to complete their qualification within this period of
time.
The award is made up of two types of unit:
Mandatory - candidates will have to achieve these in order
to achieve the qualification overall.
Optional - candidates may be able to chose from a range
of optional units depending on what industry they work in.
To gain
this award, candidates will be expected to show competence
in the mandatory and optional units and some units of this
award will take place at the candidates' place of work, and
some will take place at St. Antony's Centre.
Adult Literacy / Adult Numeracy
City & Guilds (3792)
(Level 1 and Level 2)
This
award is to address adult candidates who have Literacy and/or
Numeracy needs. The selection of candidates is at the discretion
of the Centre. This will be discussed at the initial interview.
There will be an initial assessment to determine at what
level the candidates will progress on to.
Part of the course will involve the use of a computer and
part will be paper based.
Progress assessment is performed 'On-line' by interaction
with City & Guilds computers.

National Certificate is equivalent to GCSE O' Level
