Valuing Difference

10 years ago the Bishops Conference launched a document looking at the engagement of people with Disability within the Church. The document aimed to encourage an active response and support for those with disability at every level of Church life.

As part of the ongoing development of the Diocesan Valuing Difference Working Group we are updating our information in relation to Parish groups or individuals in the Diocese that are working with people with disability, learning needs or mobility problems. We are aiming to examine ways to keep them informed of developments within the Diocese on this issue. The research for the Listening 2004 Project on Family Life highlighted a large number of groups operating in parishes giving practical day to day support to people in a wide range of social and welfare activities.

To assist us in updating this information, please complete a questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible with the contact details of the person responsible for the group/s

The Working Group hope to issue a Diocesan Valuing Difference Newsletter in Autumn 2007 as well as inviting those who are leading the groups to join us for further discussions. We would like to encourage the development of a Diocesan a network in relation to Valuing Difference.

Free support to employees

Free support to employees

Thanks to funding from the European Social Fund the Centre is offering free numeracy and Literacy support to employees who work for small to medium sized employers (SME's) in the Greater Manchester area. The courses are offered at the training Centre in Trafford Park or other appropriate facilities at local level.

Trainees will be assessed to ascertain the best course to help them improve their skills with numbers, or their literacy skills (reading or writing). The Centre is offering Level 1 or 2 qualifications accredited by City and Guilds Institute of London. Free Places are still available for the year.

The courses can be run in association with community or parish groups providing the applicants are employees who meet the criteria for the project as defined above.
