Services
and Facilities for Salford Diocesan Parishes and Lay Groups
The
Centre offers a wide range of services to the Diocese of
Salford ranging from conference and Seminar facilities to
support for Adult Christian Formation for adults, especially
those involved in Social, Economic and Industrial issues.
Conference
Facilities
The
Centre invites and welcomes diocesan groups to support our
conference/seminar facilities. The Centre is readily accessible
from the Motorway, less than 5 mins by car from junction
9 ( 5 minutes car travel from the Trafford Shopping Complex).
Evening and Sunday bookings is by arrangement.
St
Antony's Church, adjacent to the Centre, also welcomes visiting
groups to participate in the celebration of mass with their
parish community, if required. Use of the church and arrangements
for worship can be provided on request.
If
you have never visited the Centre why not choose us for
your next meeting venue ? Diocesan, Parish or School groups,
all welcome.
Our
facilities are available to all faiths.
Family
Forum
The
Family Forum represents the Salford Diocese at the Catholic
Bishops Conference, Consultations on Family Life. The Family
Forum meets quarterly and encourages local work on Family
Life. The Centre holds copies of the Family Caring Trust:
Parenting Programme and encourages local groups to develop
responses to Family Life issues.
Public
Life
Initiated
in 1999, work on establishing a Public Life Network to support
those those engaged in public duties has commenced.
World
of Work
The
Salford Diocesan World of Work Committee meets quarterly
to plan and direct areas of work related to employment and
economic issues.
The
Director of the Centre for Church and Industry serves on
the Catholic Bishops Conference, Committee for World of
Work and is a member of the Ecumenical Greater Manchester
Industrial Mission Team ( GMIM ).

The
work of GMIM is Co-ordinated from the Centre. The team is
made up of:

Laity
Forums
The
Salford Diocesan Laity Forum(s) were established in 1992.
Forum and events are organised and directed by lay people.
The purpose is to offer support, encourage training for
those involved in various aspects of lay ministry within
the Church. They provide a valuable opportunity to share
news and good practice.
The
Centre also works closely with the Movement for Christian
Workers, Young Christian Workers and Cardijn Association
in addressing issues. In 2001 it issued a booklet 'Television
and the Family'.
Catholic
Social Teaching
The
Centre for Church and Industry was formed to help promote
and develop Catholic Social Teaching. A number of seminars
and study opportunities are organised each year. The Centre
has a special association with Plater College, Oxford and
a collaborative three day residential course on "Changing
Communities" was launched in 2000. It is available
to adults who wish to return to education or learn more
about their communities.
We
also run occasional, diocesan based, short courses (generally
5 evenings) in accordance with interest and demand. Members
of the team visit parishes and address groups across the
diocese on a wide range of themes.

Training
The
Centre for Church and Industry
is an approved Centre with the City and Guilds London Institute
[ Registered Centre Number 033065 - St Antony's Centre].

Salford
Diocese Communications Service
The
Communications Project is a unique, Salford Diocesan initiative
to improve diocesan communications, particularly with respect
to improving knowledge about, and the work of, Salford Diocesan
Commissions and Organisations to parishes and people of
the diocese.
It
promotes the recruitment, training and development of Parish
Information Officers who work in co-ordination with the
Project's Communications Office to ensure effective dissemination
of Diocesan Information.
The
project also promotes the utilisation of modern electronic
communications channels ( e-mail networks and Internet Web
Site ) and is incoporating these into the diocesan communications
infrastructure.

Centre Library
/ Resource Area
Our
small library and resource area holds copies of Catholic
Newspapers, Bishops Conference Briefing and Signum as well
as other books and material on economic, religious, trade
union and social issues. A library of pamphlets and books
on Catholic Social Teaching are also available.
Individuals
researching particular sources of material are requested
to forward a written enquiry by e-mail, or letter and to
include a daytime contact telephone number. The Centre will
search and advise you on available material and arrange
an appointment for you to visit the library to further your
research.
Movement
for Christian Workers ( MCW )
The
MCW offers an opportunity for adults interested in the link
between faith and work to share their experiences and act
to challenge some of the situations they find. Recent discussions
have included: Disability and Employment, Employment Rights,
and Harassment at Work. The group meets every four to six
weeks at the Centre.

Cardijn
Association
The
association was formed to promote an active Christian presence
in the wider world through the lives of people at work,
in the home and the community. It provides a forum to celebrate
and promote the adult lay apostolate using and adapting
the principles and methods developed by Cardinal Joseph
Cardijn, founder of the Y.C.W. Movement..
A "Media"
group was formed in 1999 and have produced a discussion
and enquiry booklet "The Media and the Family"
(available from the Centre).

International
Links
The
Centre has good links with our sister organisation in the
Diocese of Turin, Italy. This provides the opportunity to
share experiences on a European level. The Centre also greets
a number of International visitors to the Centre throughout
the year.
