Area Meetings
The replacement for area meetings is two-fold and takes the form of
a series of 'focused' meetings:
Meeting for RE Heads
and Staff: (9.30am) Friday, 13th July
at the RE Centre.
Diocesan Certificate, GCSE & General RE
Materials for the Diocesan Certificate will be
distributed at the above meeting of 13th July.
It will be the responsibility of schools to ask the Department for Certificates
where students have followed the course, rather than a GCSE option from
2008.
Regarding GCSE, it may be of interest to look at the new revised Specification
A course being offered by AQA, as well as to consider attending their
free Inset sessions. Revision has produced the following: no coursework,
a modular approach, the existing style of exam paper with extra time
and a choice but no increase in the number of questions in Section C
and a short course option on any of papers 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A AND 2B.
This will be available for first teaching from September 2008, although
pupils on a two year short course could commence in 2007.
NABS - funding route from LSC / Certificates
It has been agreed that General RE in school sixth forms will draw down
funding from the LSC for the academic year 2007-8. However, there will
be changes to this in 2008-9 and details will be notified once these
become available.
Please let Bernard Stuart know how many certificate required by schools/colleges
for students completing an approved General Course in Religious Education
2007.
Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies ( CCRS )
Anyone interested in increasing his or her understanding of religious
formation in a Catholic context would find this useful. It is particularly
relevant to teachers in Catholic schools, to parish catechists or to
anyone who seeks a critical understanding of Christian faith formation.
The diocesan CCRS Course
(PDF) comprises a number of modules which may be completed on a
part time basis.
- Currently registered for CCRS? - courses
will continue as planned for 2007/8.
- Signing up for CCRS? - new arrangements
are available.
All
CCRS interest / queries to: Bernard Stuart.
Schools
Inspection 48
An increasing
number of our schools have been inspected under the new framework. However,
it is still thought to be of use to provide a half day Inset meeting
for both those schools who have not yet been inspected as well as those
who have. A main feature of the day will address the question of our
schools and social cohesion.
Please note: Co-ordinator for the Inspection Process is Mr. Peter
Foley, and you can make direct contact with him on 0161 494 2914.
The
handbook and school self-evaluation / section 48 inspection forms may
be download from our Education Resources
webpage.
