Drawing on Familiaris Consortio this office recognises the family as the basic cell of society. It is a communion of persons called to serve life, and to participate in the development of society as a believing and evangelising community.

Amongst its tasks this office will:

• help priests in parishes to counsel and direct families
• develop associations of the faithful dedicated to the family
• directly support families who must live in the midst of a culture where customs and conception of life work contrary to the Gospel.
• ensure the provision of marriage preparation and marriage enrichment programmes, of fertility awareness and natural family planning advice
• ensure that an authentic, Catholic vision of marriage, human sexuality, and the family inform all aspects of Diocesan life.
