Salford youth attend vocations event |
Sunday, 04 July 2010
A large group from our diocese, compromising young people, priests, seminarians, consecrated laywomen and religious sisters and brothers recently joined in a two-day festival celebrating and promoting vocation in the Church.
Invocation 2010, held from 2nd - 4th July,
and organised by the Archdiocese of Birmingham, was held at Oscott College.
The first of its kind, it is a national event created to encourage vocations in the Church. The event was a tremendous success, attracting over 500 delegates from all over the country, as well as a few from abroad.

His Grace Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, addressed the delegates with a rousing speech on vocation and preached at the final Mass. The group from Salford had the pleasure of meeting the Archbishop, and managed to get a photo (more coming!):
Among those present from our diocese were Sister Caroline (Little Sisters of the Poor) with members of her community, Andrea Velarde, Karina Bohorquez and Ada Collazos (Marian Community of Reconciliation (the Fraternas) ), Alf Rebello, Frankie Mulgrew and Michael Deas (seminarians), Br Benedict (Franciscan Friar of the Renewal, originally from Denton), Lorraine Leonard (Diocesan Youth Office), Jordan Pitt, Nick Webster, David Chadwick and Alex Smith (who are discerning a vocation), Sr Emmanuela (from Wigan) and Fr John Flynn (Diocesan Communications Officer).
The event was a tremendous success. Some of those who took part will write up on their experience in the next couple of days.
