Our
Mission:-
Established in
1974 with the objective of meeting the social welfare needs of adults
and older people, Welfare Societies complements the work of Catholic
Children's Rescue and augments the work of other Diocesan entities
engaged in the social care and support of disabled, homeless and
marginalised adults CWS provides a co-ordinated mechanism and a
meeting place for Catholic care providers, information to parishes
about social welfare issues and information and is engaged in direct
provision in 3 projects in the Manchester area as follows:
St.
Joseph's Welfare Centre.
Provides good neighbour assistance (visiting, shopping, conveyance
to hospital appointments etc.) to vulnerable, housebound older people
in North Manchester This project enjoys a measure of City Council
funding and most referrals are received via community care managers.

St.
Joseph's Accident and Emergency Befriending Scheme.
Based in North Manchester General Hospital this small team contacts
all patients over 65 resident in North Manchester discharged from
A&E within preceding 24/48 hours Contact is primarily by telephone
and patients encountering continued difficulties are advised/reassured
and in some instances referred to the statutory services for further
help.

Cornerstone
Day Centre
The Centre is located at 104 Denmark Road. Moss Side, Manchester.
It is open Monday to Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Hot and
cold beverages, snacks, a cooked mid-day meal, shower facilities,
good as new clothing. television. telephone and recreational facilities
are taken up by significant numbers of people suffering from homelessness,
social isolation, disabilities and addictions.
Cornerstone
has links with Health and Social Services. Probation. Housing Agencies
and the Benefits Service. A staff team of six is supported by almost
100 volunteers The Project receives no statutory funding and is
therefore reliant on a small number of trusts and the overwhelming
generosity of parishes, schools and personal donors
